Hypnosis in Sports Therapy
Some of the most dedicated people I know are athletes. They strive so hard in order to reach their goals. Getting up early, eating perfectly planned meals, and dedicating hours upon hours to training, shows how much they want to succeed. Unfortunately, having the drive isn’t always enough. Anxiety is a huge feat to overcome in the sports world. Studies have shown that there are three main reasons why athletes struggle with anxiety. The first reason is simply due to the fundamental nature of sports, which, at its core, is competition. Secondly, the comparison between one’s self and other competitors is a constant cause of stress for athletes. Lastly, the pressure athletes put on themselves, to perform to the best of their ability, can really allow their nerves to get the best of them. Hypnosis can help to manage the anxiety associated with each aspect of competition. Using muscle relaxation, athletes can focus on their abilities rather than their stress. Imagery can also play a big role in helping an athlete to visualize their goal. Hypnosis has been proven to be helpful with all of these mental stresses and is also used in pain management. When hypnotized an athlete can be distracted with something positive, rather than the pain. No matter what the problem is, mental, physical, or emotional, hypnosis can play a huge role in moving on from stress and finding a solution.
