Are Food Labels Misleading?
An article in USA Today that was released today, claims food labels may be more misleading than informational. Some food labels report being able to lower cholesterol in 6 weeks while others claim they can regulate digestion in one serving. Consumers beware, just because a label reads one way doesn’t necessarily mean that is the case.
While foods like Cheerios can help lower cholesterol. By only ingesting Cheerios will not help reduce anything without a balanced diet and exercise, no matter how many times a day you eat the cereal. The same goes for Dannon’s Activia. The yogurt made claims that it was clinically proven to regulate your digestive system within two weeks. Although Activia’s irregularity benefits do exist, more than three servings must be consumed in order to see the payback.
According to the article, the best way to avoid being misinformed is to read the information on the nutritional fact panel and the ingredient list.
