Botox vs. Fillers…Do You Know the Difference?
One of the biggest trends in trying to stay youthful looking is the use of Botox and Fillers but due to health implications, it’s important to know the difference and what you’re getting yourself into! Check out this great blog I came across on Botox and fillings!
Do you have a tendency of glancing at the covers of magazines and wondering why, even though the clock is ticking, celebrities don’t seem to be getting any older? Minus the magic of Photoshop, there are two other secrets they are hiding from you: Botox and fillers. Now you may be familiar with both of these as the cure to looking young and getting rid of wrinkles – but what is the difference?
Botox is meant for dynamic wrinkles, the wrinkles caused by the animation of your face. When something leaves you confused, angry, or sad – your face reacts and leaves an impression, probably for longer than you would like. The botulinum neurotoxin that Botox is made from blocks the action of nerves on muscles, restoring the youth in the “11” between your eyebrows when you frown, your crow’s feet, the lines across your forehead from looking up or raising your eyebrows, and other unwanted lines.
Fillers, on the other hand, are meant to enhance volume and to clear your static wrinkles, the lines that come from the loss of volume of the face, or just plain gravity weighing it down. These are most common in your nasolabial fold, the lines that lead from the outside of your nostrils to the corners of your lips, and marionette lines, the lines that lead from the outside of your lips down your chin, resembling something in a ventriloquist’s act. Muscle activity could also take part in the reason for these static lines, like how your nasolabial folds deepen when smiling. Fillers can also be used to plump or augment the lips and treat lipstick bleed lines.
It’s important to know the difference between these two when considering either procedure. While Botox is the most widely recognized brand name for this type of cosmetic, that doesn’t necessarily mean the spot you want is a Botox area.
